I used 80 gr. 2F with a t/c 370gr. maxi ball was a very accurate load out of all my 50 cal. t/c muzzleloaders with a 1:48 twist. A 320 gr. t/c maxi ball worked well also. Never had much luck with accuracy with the t/c maxi hunters. The maxi balls have great penetration.Then forge you out a simple strap staple from a coat hanger or 1/8th inch wire. Pre-drill a couple of undersized holes and tap the staple in. Won't effect the value of this horn one bit! Use a little gun bluing or browning to take the new made off of your staple. Rick.This post is trying to show anyone interested in one method to drill and tap for a TH. If you don't have a drill press and try to tap free hand it could get real ugly. The TH needs to be counter sunk flush with the filed on/in barrel flat. Don't think a newbie can make that happen free hand. JMO.The old standard for 12 gauge full choke was .040" constriction. Modern guns with modern loads really don't need that much constriction but with muzzleloaders we still are duplicating the old loadings. So the recess for a full choke 12 is .020" deep, which of course enlarges the bore diameter by the required .040".Sidelock/Traditional Muzzleloading.
