Energy and fire damage are easily the two best elements overall, but there are specific enemies with very high resistances to them. Poison is bad. Too many enmies have high resistance to it. Ice is really good if you are using a slow weapon, like maces and 2h axes. But don't bother on swords and 1h axes.
